Hi,

I'm a 20 year old DDR player, I've been playing for almost 2 years... I recently went to the doctor's for a checkup and found out that over the last 4 months, I have developed high blood pressure... I have 160/89 right now.

My question is, should I stop playing DDR until I can get my bp down? I don't really want to get out of shape - I just passed Paranoia Survivor Heavy on labor day (riiight.gif)

Any advice would be great and helpful E1.gif

you should probably just tone it down a bit.. lay off the 9 footers i guess, that always gets me goin too hard to the point where i think im gonna die.. if it is like that for you, you better not do that =)

whatever you and your heart is comfortable with laugh.gif

Did you ask your doctor? Generally they want people with high blood pressure to practice good nutrition and exercise habbits to lower it. I don't think DDR would have raised your blood pressure unless you were playing right before you went and got it taken. In that case it would be a faulty test and you should re-tested when you are calm and have been sitting for at least 3 minutes.

ddr would lower your blood pressure, not raise it. i think it has something to do with your blood vessels stretching out when you exercise. so playing ddr more might actually be good for you.

uh no, it's not good for you to do such strenous exercise while you have high blood pressure. when the doctor says excercise, he means walking, lifting fairly light weights, that kinda thing. my grandma has high blood pressure and she was sent to therapy for it, and those are the kind of things they had her do.

Like someone said, lay off the 9 fotters and do 5-7 footers instead, if you insist on playing.

I'd concentrate on diet as well as light exercise.

You might want to be retested too if you don't feel it was accurate. My uncle had an extremely high blood pressure once when he was tested, but he believed it was because of his hectic drive to the doctors where he was almost late, that stressed him out. Sure enough, they tested him later that day and his blood pressure had dropped significantly.

Thanks for the tips guys. Yeah, I am trying to work on my diet too (I have been eating lots of microwaveable diet meals since I'm combining DDR and those to try to lose weight, and I think they have tons of sodium)

Also, my doc said that for now, I should lay off of the strenuous exercise - this he told me on the same day I passed Max300 E2.gif

Do you think that sticking to easy onis/nonstops would be a better course of action? I get bored fast playing 5-7 footers...
