J Dogg - I got the popup last night as well. When I ran my Ad Aware, all I had were data mining cookies, so I really don't know if it was spyware. _________________

On a newly formatted computer, with barely any programs running.
http://z1.adserver.com/w/cp.x;rid=70;tid=2;ev=1;dt=3;ac=7;p=1;mid=1671 seems to be another URL for the ad.
Cutriss wrote: | EDIT: I added falkag.net to /etc/hosts. Now, I still get the ad, but I don't get the popup anymore. I guess there are two versions of the ad, and now I only get the non-popup version. |
That's a good idea for blocking one URL of the popup, but http://a.as-us.falkag.net/ seems to just be redirecting the browser to the real URL and doesn't seem to work.
I would suggest a pop-up stopper for anyone that wants to prevent popups (I use them because they don't completely get rid of ads, but prevent popups, popunders, etc.; some websites make money off of displaying them) _________________

How did the site even get them anyway? Its not one of your site sponsors, is it? I KNOW J Dogg or any other administrator would not want to have pop-ups on the site.... Obviously.... _________________

It's likely that a sponsor added the popup as a portion of their banner ad and that's a big no-no with J Dogg. _________________

That's why I blocked falkag.net as a host, since it's the redirecting URL. MiltyKiss wrote: | I would suggest a pop-up stopper for anyone that wants to prevent popups (I use them because they don't completely get rid of ads, but prevent popups, popunders, etc.; some websites make money off of displaying them) | Well, I had one, in the form of Mozilla, but since this server was actually circumventing Mozilla's popup blocker (which gets enough of them supressed to satisfy me), I figured that I'd just stop it at the source.
I have a pretty lengthy hosts file which I imported from the fellows over at [H]ardOCP, but I don't actively seek out hosts to add to the list unless they're doing something particularly nasty or devious.
I've had issues with falkag.net before - The last two popup incidents DDRFreak dealt with that I am familiar with came from that host. _________________

This popup should be removed now. Let me know if there are any more problems. _________________

Wow. You now have some computer banner ads for processors, etc, with that deceptive "drop down" arrow which, like Classmates ads, etc, is a total decoy (right?) as the entire banner is a link to their site.
Well, not so this time! This is the first banner ad I've seen that once you mouse over it, the drop down box actually comes up! A price list of parts and sites shows up, and if I mouse off the box, it disappears. If I click on an item in the list, a new window appears with that website and the item I clicked on. The scrolly-thing in this drop down box works too!
I'm NOT upset about this at all. This is actually pretty good... but I still ain't in the market for a new processor. |

OTOH, this new dropdown banner upsets me. I try to click `locations' link below the banner. My spastic hand accidentally push the mouse a bit too far, which ends up in the banner. Voila. You get the idea. ;_;
I'm working on disabling those dropdown banners.

Next time that happens, get the URL of the thread you were looking at and (if you can), get the URL of the ad. _________________

LOL!
I hate pop ups, especially on the school computers
I can't count the times I've been sent to the principal's office for receiving porn pop-ups or Porn E-mail spam.
Anywho, I haven't recieved any popups on this site, except for those stupid ads from AOL (it's not your fault it's mine) and keep up the good work Mods and Admins Brownie points taste good _________________
