I thought we bandied this about a while back. Specifically, we talked about changing their avatars to the 3rd Mix chainlink "FAILED" screen.
I think the general idea was that we didn't want to glorify the banned people by giving them an obvious token of their "accomplishment".

You're joking, right? I thought you'd been around that long.
They were basically posters that were very kind, respectful, and helpful to other members of the board. SSR rank was awarded to them (on a very selective basis) to signify their efforts.
However, this started causing problems. Some SSR members began posturing themselves above other members because of their perceived superiority, and many people who weren't SSR started begging/pleading to be SSR themselves. So, they just did away with it altogether and put everyone back on the same level.
Now they just beg to be Maniac Members.

I also believe that there were rumors and I believe a AFD joke regarding this topic. It's supposedly the new paid-ranking that they give when you well, pay them a donation.
I also heard that SSR ranking had to be removed because people thought they were kiss ups to the mods and they started recieving "weird" PMs, like "you cockk sucker", etc.
