See - this is why I think that once the previous MOTM winners enter the pool again, they'll be re-elected. If the previous winners have to re-enter the pool to keep the contest fair, then maybe the amount of time for ineligability should be increased from 6 months to 9 months - 1 year.

Just my opinion and don't mean to cause any trouble. nerd.gif

Yeah, but if the previous winners deserve to win again, isn't that a good reason for them to win again? I think 6 months is a suitable amount of time.

To me, the mod of the month vote shouldn't be a popularity contest. The way I feel about it is, once enough are eliminated, the vote would become about what name you've seen around the board a few times. While those mods are equally deserving and work just as hard as some of the others, not everyone visits every section of the forum to know what that mod has done. Maybe that's why each of the names in the voting process is a link to their profile, so those of us that aren't behind the scenes can poke around at their recent posts and see what they've been doing.

A lot goes on in the back end that they aren't able to talk about, so maybe someone that doesn't show their face around the boards very much has done a whole lot of work on something we don't even know about and therefore won't get the recognition for it. While not everyone needs them or checks them often, Cutriss has done a LOT of work on the individual FAQs for the different home versions, things that have needed attention for a while.

I agree. If you're doing the job well, then you should be recognized for your efforts.

My perception of it is that in a way it is a contest and in a way it is not.

I agree. He's done a lot in a short time. He's really taken care of a lot of stuff here that needed to be done.

But let's not forget that there are mods that are moderating who don't get alot or any votes every month. I can't say if its because they are just not popular but they are doing their job, at least from what I've seen and NO I am not talking about myself. Anyway, these mods are always on the low end of all votes if they got votes at all for said month. It's cool because I think that most of those mods, myself included, could not care less about being MoTM anyway. I'm just typing about the trends I've noticed each month.

Now, some mods have shiny personalities or shiny Internet personalities at least, which alot of people like. Which in turn makes them popular because they have that likeablity factor working for them. Naturally, they would get votes.

So you've got your popular vote and you've got your actually did something vote. It can work both ways.

Most people don't understand that there is only one hat. :-X It just gets stolen at tournaments all the time, and I always seem to have my camera on me. The two just go together. E1.gif

I hope you understand if I see you at a tourney I'm stealing it for a while. E1.gif

As if that'd happen though.
