Mod Elections?

When one of our beloved mods is about to leave, do you just pick a new one, or do you have the members elect a new one. If you don't, it would be cool to elect mods when needed.

When a moderator leaves (which isn't often, usually mods are phased out due to lengthy period of inactivity) and there is a hole left by their absence, we will discuss as a moderating group who we feel exemplifies the qualities we look for. Usually someone is suggested and voted on within the moderators.

Member Election: The coolest member becomes the new mod.
Moderator Election: The most qualified member becomes the new mod.

That's how I see it. It'd be impossible for it to go any other way. That, and there'd be way too many nominations, especially self-nominations (bringing back all the people who ask to be a mod).

If it wasn't for the fact that moderators are everywhere on the forums, then maybe at that point we would look over people that are qualified. There's nominations that are pending at the moment, so in all we have it covered.
