Well, I have seen much debate over the rating scale in ITG, so I have decided to ask you, the people, to change the rating scale from 1-13 to 1-100 for the ITG Expert charts. If no one ends up brutally murdered, maybe I'll move on to Hard charts.
Pandemonium should be a 100 or so for reference (EDIT: Perhaps that was a bit obvious...), but I don't really know how it compares to Summer and VerTex^2. That is why this thread exists. So you all can decide. _________________

The rating system really only exists to give people a rough idea of how difficult a song is to pass. Its purpose is to warn people who haven't played the song before what to expect (in conjunction with the info box containing steps/jumps/holds/etc). Someone who had never played it before might look at Delirium and see that it has fewer than 600 steps on expert with a few hands and think, "How hard could this be?" Once you play the song, you can make your individual assessment of it, and however the game rates it no longer matters.
Song ratings should have nothing to do with how difficult it is to score, because anyone concerned with that would already be familiar with the song anyway. _________________

Yeah, but people are always arguing about this kind of thing, so I thought I'd give them a more specific setup to make claims about difficulty.
EDIT: That post made me a trick member. I feel special. I'd like to thank boochypa, since half of my posts were bothering that poor person (poor because I keep being n00bish and bothersome). I really am very touched.
EDIT #2: I don't recall mentioning scoring... _________________

You didn't mention scoring, but people often do in these sorts of threads. My point was that the ratings really only serve to warn people who've never played the songs before.
Vertex is a 12 because it'd be damn tricky for someone who hadn't played it before, and Disconnected Hyper is a 10 because the hard part at the end doesn't come out of nowhere or anything...there are easy 16ths scattered pretty much throughout the song, then a whole bunch of them at once near the ending. Charlene is an 11 largely because the mines would be tricky for someone who wasn't anticipating them....the list goes on.
People vary too much individually to rank the songs on a 1-100 scale; people argue enough as it is with just 1-13. _________________

I made this thread largely because people argue so much on a 1-13 scale. However, I tend to not be so good at reasoning at midnight. I failed to realize that recreating the rating system would be too difficult. However, it is possible to suggest that some songs should have more specific rating scales. I think the best way to handle that would be a ranking of the expert songs, on an overall basis, since Roxor didn't intend to have all players be FAers. Ranking, Difficulty to pass, Difficulty to score, Requisites (in terms of skills) - these things could be arranged so as to make a good level scale. A full set of expert rankings would give people support when saying Tension is harder than Mythology, or otherwise. I suppose what I am saying is that there should be a reference list for all songs, with player opinions on what the rankings mean.
I bet it has already been done. _________________
