I was afraid of not having the energy to do the run due to playing DDR for 3 hours yesterday, but today I did as I said. I ran for 60 mins straight at 7mph on the treadmill. It wasn't so bad, but it's not something I could have done if I wasn't determined. I actually didn't even get winded, but my legs were fairly tired starting around 33 mins into it. The experience reminds me of when I used to swim 200x25 yard laps in 1:15:00, except I was in phenomenal shape back then (7 years ago).

Trigger Happy, none of the Supernova or Extreme or DDR Max songs really phase me much anymore. Last semester I was like, "oh I wonder if I can pass Max 300 now", and I passed it with an A on a crappy cobalt flux pad. Last night I played through all the Paranoia songs without getting tired. I also noticed that Supernova timings are super easy. I could AAA some of the easier songs and AA most 9's (on a Cobalt Flux that had just been cleaned).

One of these days, I'm going to pass these darned 13 footers (and some stamina-intensive 11/12's)... Welcome to Rainbow, Infernoplex, Summer, Uber Rave, Pandemonium, Stuntin Like My Daddy, Monotone, Heaven, Energy, Bloodrush, Fer Sure--you're going to get passed!

Thanks for the input so far, guys! You could also state which 13's (and above) you have passed. Just curious.

I agree, especially now since I know pretty much a lot of songs in SuperNOVA and Extreme. I expect to get tired with SuperNOVA 2, though I can't really say for sure since I've only played it once and I didn't give enough effort putting up with the bad pads.

Besides, playing at home will probably make the experience easier or harder depending on your playing conditions. It's harder for me because I play in my small bedroom without any room for fans.

Oh man, it is so stuffy in my dorm room. I've had to stop on songs that I can consistently pass because I just couldn't get enough oxygen. Besides my first time playing at the arcade, I have always scored higher there... typically about 10% higher than at home. I'm not sure if I've even passed a 12 footer at home.

As someone who has now passed every 12 besides Bloodrush, and several 13's (Infernoplex, Welcome to Rainbow, and one or two more I forget), I will now go back and answer to some of the posts.

I wish I could run the mile in 5:39. or under 7 minutes.... frown.gif Anyways, just play alot. According to most people running stamina doesn't affect dancing stamina. As for me, I can pass 13's and 14's like Destination and Boss on Parade, and I only play once a week for about an hour or two. I'm also not in the best shape I could be. Just keep playing it'll come. The best advice I can give you is try playing in socks, that put my stamina from being tired by 11's to 13's and 14's, almost instantly. It was really weird.... erm.gif
The reason you became so much better when switching from shoes to socks is probably because your shoes are terrible for DDR. I tried a pair of Nike Shox shoes, and it decreases my score approximately 15-20%. I was getting low 70's on easy songs. Eventually I will get a pair of Puma shoes similar to what Calimist wears... or any other top player like Mad Matt. I can't use socks cause I often play on a cobalt flux, and socks catch on the edge of the panels.

But seriously though, stamina doesn't really have to do with it, but it helps a lot (especially with songs that are demanding with their streams and stuff). It's more knowing and maintaining the fast/complex rhythm and knowing how to move to it (for example, PARANOiA Survivor Max Challenge will turn your body into a certain direction in each gap during the death run. Failure to comply will make the experience difficult).

After enough practice you'll learn a technique that suits you well and you'll be able to handle 13s with some level of ease.
True, but I think your own post contradicts your initial statement that stamina does not really have to do with it--it does! I could not have passed Welcome to Rainbow last night without stamina.

Being of the older group on this forum (27 years old lol), I will tell you beating stamina songs that are rated 13+ isn't exactly something you can just jump into overnight.

I try to go twice a week for about an hour or two.

I can't really explain how to do it, but I can get you there faster:

1. Drink lots of water.
2. Stretch before you play.
3. Eat something light and full of vitamins and a little carbs (like a salad or a veggie soup).
4. Don't launch into it on your first round. This is my measuring stick:

When you get to the point where playing on a certain difficulty no longer tires you, then its time to move your "bottom rung" up a notch. Some players have a difficulty level they go to once they are warming up or tired. Usually it's the same difficulty level.

With me, I either warm up on a really difficult 9 or a moderate 10. You wanna work on something that's gonna get you warmed up and in the mood without making you sweat right off the bat. Find songs that you want to work on FAing early on and do that first. After that, you can start stepping up your game.

This is my set-up but you might find something different that suits your needs. My set up is to work FA and endurance simultaneously.

9/10, 10, 11, 11
11, 10, 11, 12
10, 11, 11, 12
9, 10, Boss Parade/ Welcome to Rainbow / etc.

The idea here is that I wait until I'm really warmed up before I get into it, because it's 1800+ steps without stopping.
I warm up with a few 10 or 11 foot songs. Last night, for example, I played some custom 10 and 11's like Hot n Cold and I Kissed a Girl. I will also say that food has a much greater effect on my playing than one might expect. Seriously, makes me feel good or bad, which effects my attitude and the way I move. I had vegetables with water and milk for dinner an hour before playing.

I would say at this point that 11's don't tire me out unless I'm playing no bar.

Last night, I passed the following 4 songs back to back to back to back: Eggman's Quasar, Welcome to Rainbow, Infernoplex, The Final Hour.

Learn to MA/FA on easier songs before shooting for the big 13s. Being to hit the notes accurately works wonders on songs like Pandemonium with huge streams that will kill you if you stray off the beat. If you're playing ITG, you should at the very least be able to star anything below a 10 if you're going to shoot for the big ones.
I can star 11's now on pad. On keyboard, I 2-3 star most ITG songs.

I don't know the last time I played a 9 E10.gif

Ninja pretty much sums up what I was going to say.

Warm up first, then do stretches. This will increase your flexibility overtime and help enhance and quicken your reach.

Make sure you warm up before doing stretches!
Performing cold stretches has a detrimental effect and increases your chance of injury.

Eat a lot of carbs 2 days before you plan to work on endurance and attempt this. You'll need the energy.
Eat lightly the day off, like what Ninja said.

Running: Great running time!!, I can only run 5.7 miles.
How far do you run?
Running for distance will significantly increase your endurance.
I have completed 2 marathons, and adding distance helps a ton with endurance.

Socks, I recommend never using socks, too slippery and they snag.
On CFs doubles, I wear shoes, Singles I go barefoot.

I primarily play doubles, when I was preparing for energizer, I would warm up with 9s, and 10s. Do a few 11s, and then as many 12s as I could be tiring out.

Also, doing foot exercises and/or running barefoot will strengthen your foot muscles and assist endurance, flexibility, and speed.
(Note: if you do run barefoot, you must condition your foot for this, it usually takes, 1-2months of walking, then vshort runs)

Some information on that is below:

Your post is excellent in retrospect. I ran 7 miles in an hour a few weeks ago, and right after Thanksgiving break I ran 4 miles in 30 mins. Distance running is where it's at! I'm actually looking at passing some long and difficult songs now such as Forever and Holy Orders. I plan to run an hour at 7.2 mph on Friday. I definitely attribute long distance running as part of my success.

I've done some foot exercises as well. I'm not sure if it's the fact that I have been exercising my foot or that I'm conscious of its importance to my gameplay, but I can now heel and toe way better than ever before.

Recently, I have been playing 2-4 times/week and for about 4-12 hours total.

In conclusion, this is what I've found to push me over from 11 and some 12's to fairly easily passing 12's and doing 13's and even considering 14's now:

- Running 4-8 miles at 7+ mph definitely helped for endurance
- Familiarity with charts through keyboarding on ITG2
- Playing a couple times a week for hours at a time allowed me to refine my technique and gave me the desire to figure out why I couldn't pass harder songs
- Playing with really lightweight New Balance 811 Running shoes.
- Learning the technique of keeping my feet oriented left or right (kind of like Heel and Toe) in order to minimize the distance my feet travel from one arrow to the next. This made a HUUUUUUGE difference. I can now move faster and use less stamina. I watched Calimist, Mad Matt, Cosmic Pope, Rynker, and others to see how they move.
- Increasing my accuracy which mainly came through my keyboarding experience. I play a lot on keyboard... often hours each day. I also play a lot of custom songs, and the average song difficult is probably a hard 13 or easy 14.
