The sensitivity of a point on the pad =/= sensitivity of the panel. No shit you can get a reaction from a soft pad by poking it with your pinky; you're just bending a thin membrane. However, only about 19% of all points on a softpad are over one of the holes in the foam, and an even smaller percent of the sensor area is actually covered by the membrane. The soft pads are made so that the membrane lines up with the holes, but that doesn't last long.

The sensors of an arcade pad don't move; they're engineered not to move. They're very specifically designed to pick up a small amount of pressure anywhere over a large area.

Ok, its actually starting to piss me off to how ignorant soymilkcharlie is being. you must be borderline retarded to actually think arcade pads are more sensitive than home pads. i mean, with the posts you are making, i doubt you actually even know what "sensitivity" even means.
I'm sorry, but ignorance does not limit itself to using hard evidence and reasoning to argue a point. Ignorance is saying that all soft pads are the same. And that's what you're saying.

This argument got way off on a tangent.

Original statement:
Quote:
All home pads are more sensitive than arcade pads (unless the home pad is broken.)

Current Argument:
Side A:
Quote:
A softpad in perfect condition is more sensitive than an arcade pad in perfect condition.

I mostly agree with this.

Side B:
Quote:
An arcade pad can theoretically be modified to react to a very small amount of force. A soft pad cannot.

I agree with this.

Side C:
Quote:
The perfection we're talking about here is hypothetical, so the argument is moot.

Any intelligent person in this argument knows this, but hasn't brought it up 'cause that would make it too easy. (Oh wait, I just did. Argument = dead.)

Side D:
Quote:
Many home pads are poorly made, such as the tx1000's and many AfterBurners. Therefor, the statement "all Home Pads are more sensitive then Arcade Pads" is untrue.

This was my original argument. I believe that softpads are very sensitive if you mod them right out of the package and they come without defects. However, soft pads =/= all home pads.

I hope that clears things up.

Been watching this very curiously, as a matter of fact. Lots of fun flaming and such. Point is, this went off-topic while staying on-topic at the same time; moreover, there's no point in arguing which is superior in terms of sensitivity. Apples and oranges.
