Judging by how horrible Stewie's other scores are, theres no way he could get 94 on vertex ^2. I mean seriously. 23 quadstars? Im sure we could all do better than that. He is so bad that he gets bugged scores on upgrades.
And you know people are passing keyboard 12s and 13s? _________________

I want more Smiley, and DEFINITELY Hyper Hyper (it does not suck, its no different than the other trance Smiley stuff).
Duality. I can see that as being the first 14.
Another Go 60 Go-sounding song.
Summer is a damn 13. Keep it that way.
Bloodrush is a damn 12. Keep it that way.
Make Determinator a 13???
Make Vertex2 a 14???
Yes I want those last two to happen. _________________

-First spell the company right, please, before someone kills you.
-Second, do your research on Roxor before saying ITG is the only game they've made. If you did, there would be no point in saying what you just said.
And seriously, you complain they take too long and they suck then. Well, Blizzard is slower than molasses, but they seem to ALWAYS make Game of the Year, and they seem to ALWAYS have like a 10-fold return.
What a crappy company.
In other words, maybe they're talking time so that it is good. Would you rather have a great game you had to wait for or a good game you didn't have to wait for? _________________

If you what to discuss the content of my post, feel free. But don't just ignore it because I'm not elite enough for you. |
I'm sorry, here is my full review of your post:
typobox43 wrote: | I'd like to see a slight reworking of the high end of the ratings system. Say... push Pandy and V^2 up to 14, leave Summer as a 13. Then, promote some of the harder 12s to 13. |
This just doesn't make any sense to me. Why the hell would you do that? If you were looking to increase the gap in difficulty between the currently rated 12's and 13's you would totally fail by promoting any of the 12's to 13's.
typobox43 wrote: | I'd suggest Bloodrush, Euphoria, HotN, and Determinator... |
This clearly shows your inexperience with the game because Euphoria and HoTN are not very difficult to pass (passing difficulty usually determines rating) and HoTN isn't difficult at all to score. This would also cause much more overlapping of difficulty in 12's and 13's.
typobox43 wrote: | I also think it would be good to see a sixth "hidden" difficulty on a few select songs. All of the charts would be no easier than a 14, and they'd need to either be unlocked, or accessed with a step code each time they are played. |
Now what the hell is the point of this? It'd just piss people off to have to hit a step code every time you wanted to play a certain difficulty. Why can't you just make it permanently available after a code entry?
typobox43 wrote: | In fact, these charts could even somewhat ignore following the music and insert a bunch of extra streamy steps just to make it harder (think July). I don't mean to make the charts make no sense with the music, but adding 16th streams that aren't necessarily dictated by the music would do this job well enough. |
There are many more ways to make a stepchart difficult than adding random streams that don't follow the music (which wouldn't make the chart much harder, just stupid and random). And as far as I remember, July's streams follow the music very well.
typobox43 wrote: | These charts would only be for the best players out there, for people who are looking for a raw challenge. They may not be pretty, but they're hard. Maybe something along the lines of the Stamina Tester edits. |
The best ITG players are looking for a challenge, but they're not looking for some bullshit stepchart that doesn't follow the music just to be difficult. They want to be challenged in new and different ways. You can make a really dumb stepchart that's made to be impossible (see the many joke files for stepmania); you can just throw a giant stream of 32nd notes into Pandemonium; but people aren't going to play it because that would be fucking retarded. |

Thank you for the serious reply. I do appreciate it.
I guess the purpose of the ratings changes would be to try to fix what, at least to me, seems to be a rather wide range of difficulty in the 12s. If you take Vertex (probably the easiest of the 12s after you remove !) and compare it to Bloodrush or Determinator... they just don't even seem to be close to being on the same level, at least to me. I'm not saying it was a perfect idea or even a good one, and you seem to have done a pretty good job of pointing out the flaws at least in the songs I suggested to push up.
Although, I'm curious - would people really complain if the ratings on Expert took scoring difficulty into account a bit more than they currently do? Passing difficulty-based ratings make sense for easier charts, because you don't want inexperienced players picking a song that they can't pass because they were fooled by a low rating. I'm not saying that the ratings should be completely based on scoring or even mostly - but would it be such a bad thing if some songs were moved up one level because of their scoring difficulty? (Honest question here. I'm not suggesting that I'm right, I'm really just curious as to the opinions of more experienced players on this matter.)
As for the "extra" difficulty - making it permanently available after unlocking would be fine, but it would be nice for it to save its availability to your card as opposed to on the machine, so it's only unlocked for those who know how to do it. I guess it just makes it seem a bit more "special" - think back to SSR on 3rd mix. It's not necessary that it works that way, though.
And while I agree that it's possible to make harder charts without making them totally BS, I don't know how possible it would be with many of the existing songs, which is what I was suggesting. Then again, I guess this is only for a few songs and not for all of them, so maybe enough reasonable charts could be worked out.
And I still say that there's a couple of things in July that don't seem to follow much of anything to me. They don't feel "out of place" so much, but they more complement the music than follow it. Maybe I'm just not hearing something that I should be, though. _________________

I would like it a lot more if they rated the songs based on scoring rather than passing. _________________

I wouldn't really see that working because the majority of people who play dance games aren't even a bit close to passing several songs o Expert difficulty and would find it rather confusing.
Here's my idea instead - how about we have two difficulty ratings for a song, one for passing and the other for scoring? This would not only help developing players to find which songs they'd be comfortable passing, but also allow Experts to find out which songs they'd have the easiest time FA'ing. Some examples:
Lipstick Kiss - 9/10
Clockwork Genesis & Utopia - 11/12 (unsure about Utopia - the high scores on it are considerably lower than those of other 11's, yet my highest 11 score is on it)
VerTex^2 - 13/14 (it has to be at least that when nobody has even *'d it yet)
And vice versa:
Tribal Style - 10/9
Summer ~Speedy Mix - 13/12
Charlene - 11 (I think it should be 10) /10 _________________

I agree with Da Bar. The rating system is pretty good as it is. _________________
