There is no real way to avoid them taking over your posts, is there? Theres the way we get around the language filters, but I really don't think we can do that to get out of the advertisment take-over.

See the first post there?

Click quote and take a good look at it.

But would you really want to take that much extra time if you're writing up a post on a game or something? ...and does it REALLY matter that much?

Oh yeah, I just wanted to get my $0.02 in about the advertisement links.

Frankly I have no problem at all with them. It would be kinda cool if more stuff would link then just video game or ebay-related things that I've encountered thus far... like "Discount Geiger Counters." But again, I can't complain about the ads.

A banner ad is perfectly fine too (assuming no popups or drive-by installation prompts or siezure-inducing flash etcetera), but it would be cool if, well, there were banner ads for cooler stuff too. Kinda like the banners on Somethingawful.com except not as sexually themed.

Anyhoo... oh and I use IE.

While it could be suggested that ThinkGeek/OSDN be courted by the hosting company, ultimately it's their call as to who they hit up for ads and who they accept. So it's not like DDRFreak can start putting better banners in there on its own.

So I'm finally viewing this site on IE on my mom's computer back home, and honestly the new ads really aren't that obtrusive at all. THe green text really doesn't bug me at all, it's just noticable as an ad. Though the only thing it seems to be higlighting is videogame and nothing else.

I say keep these as long as they bring in revenue. If not, there are always other alternatives out there.
