|
|
Hi.
I'm from Bergen in Norway. There is only ONE(!) DDR machine in Bergen. The sad news is: It's going to be removed:(
Then i got an idea (sort of). What if i get my selv som platforms, install Step Mania on my computer and rig it up the same place the ddr machine was? I have downloaded a lot of packages with songs to SM (yeah, i know. Piracy is a crime and so on..). But what about the copyright on these songs? I suspect i cant play them when everybody has "access" to the place?
I've been told it's okay to play whatever music you want as long as you dont charge people money to listen to it.
But i also wanted to use one of those coin-usb-computer thingy so i can get a little back for risking my ddr equipment.
Anybody know anyhing about this?
This post got a little long, sorry |

Someone who knows how international copyrights work? I don't know how it would transfer from Japan to Norway... _________________

IANAL, but as Norway and Japan are both signatories to the Berne Convention, Norway must treat Japanese copyright holders with the same protections as locals would get. Therefore, the question would defer to Norway copyright law - which I know next to nothing about. But at least you now know that international law is pretty much irrelevant. |

no no, not at all
ok, what i'm about to say, i can't promise is true, but it might be help in some way or another
Basically, you won't have the right to download any songs to begin with, unless you can somehow manage to get the CD from the machine. Having (rightful) possesion will enable you to make a 'backup' copy of the songs, in this case, Stepmania. Now actually operating Stepmania in public may be tricky, since technically it's not a DDR machine, but it does the same operation, that's the sorta grey area, and where you'll be experiencing risk. Once you've got it running in public, be sure not to use any themes other than the default, or themes that you have gotten permission to use from the author (that do not violate copyright laws, ex. any theme based on a DDR mix with ripped graphics). You have to know, even if you do this, and you have rightful ownership of the CD, it still may be considered illegal, since you're not exactly using the application on the cd, so it's not really a good idea to really call it ddr if you ever get held up by authorities.
that's just my viewpoint on it _________________
