|
|
I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem. If I load a page where people have a lot of userbars, it takes forever. If no one has any the page loads like normal. I would just think it was my browser, but I was at a friends house and it did the same thing. He ueses Firefox and I use Opera. Just wondering if it is the userbars that are doing that. _________________

That sounds like a browser issue, if it's loading those images before the page layout. The proper function for a web browser to do is to read the HTML, parse the image dimensions, and space out rendering items appropriately before trying to load the binary contents of the image, that way the textual layout is preserved while the images are loaded.
Oddly enough, Userbars have been breaking for me through today, so it's not bothering my load times at all. _________________

And thank the good lord for that.
I think the 'rise in popularity' and everyone hotlinking would appear to have taken the site down.
HAHA GOOD JOB GUYS, THAT WAS EXCELLENT PLANNING.
[edit]
Yeah, userbars.com is down. I wonder if it's permanent? _________________

It's not. They said they have to temporarily shut it down due to excess traffic. They said that they're going to add a search feature too. I don't see how that's going to help.
Anyways just do what I do: Make your own userbars. |

I just don't see the point. I mean, if they're gonna host the images and allow them to be remote-linked, then why dont they also have URL-encoding or somesuch? Profile generation? I mean, if they're just supplying funny-looking horizontal images, why not just make them available and force you to host them yourself? >.> _________________
