Just curious - has anyone ever considered the idea of allowing users to have an ignore blacklist for users? People placed on the list would be, for all intents and purposes, an "unperson" to that user. Topics would not be seen, posts would not be seen, and no PM communication would go between them. That sort of stuff.

There are clearly pros and cons of this idea (which could result in some hillarity/problems.) One question would be if the ignored user would know who is ignoring them.

its been suggested in the past but all the ways that ive seen PHP do it nativly are lackluster though i miaging that if they were so compelled to add it they would make it better but remeber everythign done to the code needs to be checked to make sure that it dosnt mess up whats here already and an ignore option would be huge so basicly wait for the update to the new php and see what happens then

Plus if someone wanted to really be a systematic pain in the ass they could circumvent things by using stuff to cloak their IP when browsing. I know of sites that allow that sort of stuff but those could probably be blocked.

If you block a single user, then ip cloaking doesn't matter.
As long as they're logged in as joe user, then you block the user and (assuming the functionality is present) you never see their posts.

Nah, I mean like circumventing an IP ban, that sort of thing.

This sounds good at first, but I think I'd end up blacklisting so many people I'd have no idea what the hell was going on in just about any thread.

There's no way I would put Radix on an ignore list. He is an endless font of bitter antagonism and an efficient drama catalyst.

EBT - same but to a lesser degree.

Baiting in Feedback is a curious move for someone as petrified of warning points as yourself.

All right kids...Time to pull the car over and threaten to turn around.

Suggestion made, noted. It is something I think would be useful, but as Electronic Bank Transfers pointed out, phpBB is rather hackneyed when it comes to mods of this class. It'd probably put in a pretty big hit to the performance of the boards, and right now that's the most important thing, in my mind.
